Draper Lake is a rare coastal dune lake and supports an ecosystem that is unique to only a few places on earth. The natural cycle of a coastal dune lake is governed by the exchange of fresh and brackish water which seeks a level that equals the elevation of the sand beach that keeps it from the Gulf.
